Slow start today, everyone seems to be sleeping later. Decided to breakfast at the hotel as was a buffet style and the children were all free. Was very good value as copied mum and dad and took lunch for everyone as well as breakie!
Spent the day sightseeing as didn't have to catch the ferry till the afternoon. Drove into Copenhagen and parked near Nyhaven, which was just lovely, as expected. Beautiful old pastel wooden houses standing guard along a canal with cobblestoned sidewalks and lovely wooden sailboats. We took a boat cruise which was a relaxed and fabulous way to see the city. Gotta love any city with that many waterways. Fabulous buildings in so many different styles, including lots of modern and avant garde ones. Everything very neat and orderly. Saw Noma, opera house, little mermaid statue, amelienborg palace and many others. Bridges were so low you could reach up and touch them!
Had lunch in the square at Nyhaven while the girls danced to a busker. Of course they wanted ice cream afterwards so we acquiesced. Yummo.
Drove to the port via the little mermaid statue so I could get a picture from the front. Have enjoyed Denmark though seems slightly odd how ordered everything is. There is minimal immigration so the heritage and culture are very much intact. Seems odd coming from London not to see various ethnicities around. I look forward to seeing more of Denmark. Must say I love the popularity of bike riding here, and how the councils have provided bike routes on every road. It seems everyone rides! And what a great way to get around, in an essentially flat city.
On the ferry to Oslo, renamed the loveboat as very glitzy 80's decor and all the cabin doors painted hot pink! A much bigger boat this time with more amenities. Em and I enjoyed exploring and were very excited to find shops, cinemas, childrens play areas and...a pool! Raced back to tell the others and don bathers. We all spent a happy hour in the pool area which had a warm paddling pool with slide, a cooler deep pool and a lovely hot spa. Being Scandinavia it seemed the kids were allowed in the spa which they loved and so did I!
Had a yummy buffet dinner again (the seafood...mmmmm) which Jason paid for this time as it comes in around £80. And off to bed we go. Am loving the indoor cabins as you don't really need a window, and the room is fabulously dark no matter what the time - anything to try and eke out sleep times!

Lucy there may be minimal immigration (it's mighty tough for anyone to get in, even if they marry and have Danish children!) but I'm sure you would also find there's a somewhat ethnocentric undertone that's can be a bit unsettling. Did the girls try the 'guf' on top of their icecreams? like a whipped egg-white mix - very special Danish 'treat'. Very flat country, hence the cycling culture is huge everywhere - cars are legally obliged to give way to cyclists, cyclists are so much safer there than I've ever noticed before. I love seeing what people wear on bikes there too... it's not uncommon to see high suits, heels and skirts. It's a good thing they ride so much, with all that rich food and all those awful pastries!!!
