We flew into Berlin and immediately noticed how green Germany is. Such a difference from the last time I was here! When it appeared to be grey - it was winter.
Our apartment was in the old Rixdorf area right near to the edge of the former American sector.
Having last been in Berlin when the old Germany was divided I was very keen to see the parts if Berlin that had been behind the wall and the road that runs through the Brandenburg gate.
We headed to the Brandenburg Gate only to find that a huge screen was right in front of it for public viewing of the European football cup. Rats !
We did, however, go on a great 'free' walking tour and learnt heaps about former east Berlin and saw the bit that is left of the wall and of course the cute Trabi cars.
On our second day we had a curry wurst ( very typical berliner) and coffee with my friend's brother who is a Berliner. He gave us a few local tips.
The evening was spent in a cosy little cafe near our apartment playing backgammon and eating delicious homemade food!!
