Dubai is very hot!! We arrived at 7.30 am and it was 38C and humid.
Flying in we could see the housing compounds surrounded by fences - to keep the desert out. Apparently there is no rainfall here!
It is a city of huge shopping malls and hotels. The air is filled with a haze of sand and shimmer of heat.
We had a tour of the city in the tourist bus and it is evident that the most important thing here is about being the biggest, tallest, richest.
Many people wear the traditional costume of white for men, black abaya for women, finished off with a designer handbag. I even saw a woman with a shopping trolley filled with designer label bags, filled!
We saw the amazing water fountain and music show last night, we sat outside, it was stinking hot and humid even at 10 pm. I found out today it was 54C yesterday.
Tonight we did a desert safari where we went in a 4WD through the sand dunes then had dinner at a bedouin style campsite - the compound type. Disappointingly it wasn't a tent but it was fun all the same.
So this ends our great adventure - one more sleep ( very comfy bed) then Melbourne, here we come.
What a journey it has been, 9 countries, diversity of cultures, heaps of history, beautiful and not so beautiful places, new and old friends met.
We are ready for home, enriched by the experience, better educated in history, art and culture.
See you soon Melbourne.

becca Wow. Such diversity too! Hope that going home to chilly melb is welcoming and homely for long time travellers. So much input into that creative mind to fuel idea development for the next while. See you when we are back
