Sallys Worldwide Adventure
Fraser is a sand Island of the coast of Hervey bay.
I went on a 3 day, 2 night camping trip around the island. I really enjoyed it, it was my 1st real camping experience so I didnt quite know what to expect.
Before we were allowed to drive the 4x4's over to the island we had to be put in to groups of 10 or 11 and attend this big safety meeting. We were told how to drive the 4x4, where and when you can drive on the beach, and about how dangerous the wild Dingos that live on the Island can be, and to never leave food out or go to the toliet by your self as thats when you most likely to be attacked as they can sence your vunarable!!
When we drove off the ferry onto the island we had to drive inland, as the tide was up so we coudnt drive along the beach. The inland was pretty scary to drive on, the paths were so bumpy, up and down, massive holes in the ground and sometimes there could be a massive drop next to you! I only ever drove along the beach, didnt fancy tthe inland driving!
We drove around the island seeing all the different lakes, some of which were really nice. But they were all freezing to get in! I only got in a couple, lake McEnzie were the water is so fresh you can actually drink it. (but Sophie has since told me she weed in it!!) And the Tea lake which has so much iron in it, its the same colour as tea. Also saw a few creeks, went to a ship wreck and to a shark look out point, but didnt see any sharks!
The 2 nights we stayed in different parts of the Island. Our first night we camped with the other 3 groups that went over, and we all sat together drinking around the gas burners that we had for cooking as your not allowed to make fires on Fraser Island. But the secound night we set up our own campsite in the middle of no where, was really cool little place, right behind a sand dune with trees around us, so we were quite shielded from the wind, which was good as on our 1st night our fisrt attemped at putting up the tents failed when it started raining and all but 1 of the tents fell down! A Dingo walked in to our camp this night, but I think we scared it as we all screamed and jumped up!!
