So we wake up relatively early and do the standard walk about and explore mission that we usually do in every new city. By this time thru the trip I'm pretty much done with taking pictures of churches and nice buildings so the exploring doesn't last long. La Paz is a pretty gritty city, which suits us down as it's cheap, plus for the first time it feels like real South America. The altitude is still affecting me and a 10 minute walk feels like a 10km jog. The added factor that La Paz is really really hilly makes the experience of walking round town even more of an effort. We make it to a supermarket where we buy some alcohol for the night. Whilst walking back we 'stumble' across the same sports bar where they were showing some prem football. We go in for a couple of beers and relax whilst watching some fooz. The altitude seems to make the beer soak in a bit better as after only a few I'm feeling it. After the football we head back to the hostel to continue drinking ready for the night out. After a bottle of Bacardi between us we head to wild rover, a proper party hostel with a bar, and who's in there, only junior and ange!! We have a few beers with them before they go to bed and we head over to route 36, a bar. Were a little bit early so it's not that busy, however there is a group of English speaking people so we sit with them and chat the night away. The night ends up being a late one which means the following morning wasn't seen. We go book up the bike ride down death road which means we have to wake up at 7 the next morning. This is EARLY in travelling terms so we just chill the rest of the day with a few beers in the evening. Next morning we were picked up at half 7 and taken an hour away to the top of death road. The first part of it is wide and tarmacked, although this wasn't very 'deathly' I still got up some good speed, even overtook a bus. The second part was the good part thou, we turned of the tarmac and onto a gravelly rocky road. Just as steep but half as wide with a big drop on the side. Even though it started raining half way thru and I literally couldn't see a thing with all the mud in my eyes it was amazing. Like many of the things I've done explaining it with words is impossible so hopefully the pictures will show the fun. The ride home was horrid thou, wet thru and it took about 2 and a half hours. Once back at the hostel I warmed up with a shower and chilled at our hostel till I was fully warm again. It was also time to leave to Loki hostel, like wild rover, a proper party hostel. We got there about half 8, dumped the bags and hit the bar. It was pretty decent, good tunes and loads of English speakers. We stayed there till about midnight tanning beers on our tab (dangerous) before going to bed. Wish I could have stayed up but I was pretty knackered plus the following night was their 5th anniversary party which was gunna be big so I didn't have a problem saving myself for that.
