After a sneaky nap to warm up from the sea, we headed back to Floreana Island to the famous Post Office Bay. Set up many years ago by Europeans to leave information for other sailors and explorers, the mail box still stands today. Travellers who come here leave postcards, some to remain on Floreana and some addressed to family or themselves. It has become tradition to take a postcard with address close to home and hand deliver it. We have acquired a New Zealand addressed letter - hope they weren't expecting a fast delivery!
Back on the beach we spotted a small penguin swimming and diving down for food - apparently a rare sight on this island. We then braved the cool water once more snorkelling just off the beach. It was well worth it - along with the usual beautiful coloured fish we saw 3 massive turtles! Their shell alone was over a meter long. They were very relaxed, going with the current and swimming only to find a new rock to eat off. A few colourful fish were always close up to pick up extra food the turtle was stirring up. We could swim all around them without them taking any notice.
