Settled in on 'Jack' our tour truck we stopped on the drive at the equator line, not as warm as you would think at such high altitude! We had a stunning view out to the mountain being the highest point on the equator line. Closer to Otavalo we had a lookout over the stunning lake by the town and got up close with alpacas. Otavalo itself was a market town - our tour guides showed us around and took us to the food stalls where we tried the delicious pork and other local food & smoothies. We headed back to a different part if the market full of goods made from alpaca wool and brought some very soft blankets and scarves. We then attempted to walk to a waterfall - we never actually found the waterfall but decided the massive hill had been good training for the Inca trail. There was a stunning view from the top over the town and surrounding mountains and we had a few funny encounters with locals on the way back down, including one lady scaring the living daylights out of us!
Meeting up with the tour group for dinner, we made the most of happy hour mojitos (which the restaurant extended to the whole night for us)
