Out from Floreana Island is an old volcano which created an elevated area in the sea but not high enough to form an actual island. Devils Crown is reportedly the best snorkelling spot on the Galápagos. We jumped off the dinghy with our tour guide and very soon after we saw a 2m long hammerhead shark swimming in the deep below us! Not much further on we saw a whole group of rays swimming along the bottom very close to each other. There were so many colourful fish and further around a playful sea lion was swimming around us in a shallower area. Around the last side of the rocks there were two large white finned reef sharks circling under a large rock. The tour guide was brave enough to swim down to get some amazing footage - as he had told us the sharks are not aggressive here and took no notice of him.
