A reflective day today. The Australians have very inefficient traffic lights. The myth that Australia has no issue with immigration - Melbourne has a huge oriential community. Closer to home, I faced up to one of my own prejudices - that you could find much older men attractive without there being a hidden context when I chatted and got to know a late forties guy in Skinny Dips and realised how wrong I had been to give a certain someone such a hard time over the issue. I also reflected on how annoying it can be to be in the company of someone who wants to be in control all the time, note to self...However on a lighter note, compared to the shambolic charm of Sydney, Melbourne exudes a rather more grown up and sophisticated air. The nightclub I went to last night, The Peel, was somewhat of a revelation. From its proudly gay majority enforced door policy and Drag Queen vetting of the queue to exploding the myth that you have to play brain deadening beats with no melody to entertain the modern gay community, this place played a mix of retro camp classics without ever being even slightly cheesy - it felt europhoric. Can we please ship this venue to London?! Talking of cheese, the Neighbours tour was very naff, only partially saved by the completely mad Irish tour guide with his encyclopaedic knowledge of the show and I used to think that I was a nerd. The retro flavour of the day was finished off with me posting a letter (!) back to the UK. Looking forward to see Kylie for the second time tonight!

Paul I think that neighbours has had its day now, not the same without Mrs Mangle. Say hi to Charlene for me tonight.
Roger I've just noticed on your itinerary map that some miles (how many I don't know as there's no bloody scale on the map) east of Melbourne is... Port Fairy! I thought Neighbours had its day twenty years ago? Hope the spider bite's healing, that lump looked nasty - I hope you smashed the little s*** to smithereens when it bit you!
Roger FFS, I meant West of Melbourne, duh...! Still, East sounds more romantic (for example, the film 'Krakatoa East of Java' is wrongly titled - it should be 'Krakatoa West of Java', but the film makers thought East sounded more exotic. Not a lot of people know that, unless they're reading this blog).
ryanedwards As in Barking, East of London sounds more exotic? Charlene was on top form....
Roger Actually, you've now completely destroyed my theory...
