After the excesses of Mari gras, it was nice to have a lie in to let the hang over recede before Derek and I went to coogee beach. Sydney being full of surprises meant a small bus ride from the large American style city centre took us to a Victorian style English seaside resort - complete with fish (a tasty new zealand variety) and chips! In the evening I met up with a nice young man called Kurt and the following morning we took a ferry into town passing nearby ...

The pride parade was great, really long with a nice community feel, the exception being the glitzy google float, even the rain didn't spoil the atmosphere. Chatting to a young Austrian back packer in the crowd, as you do, rumours were going wild that kylie would appear in the parade but instead it was a group of kylie impersonators! Sydney! What a place! From meeting up with Derick and going for some food where a gay guy nearly vomited (nothing to do with my aftershave) things took a definite turn for the better as we hit the nightlife. Ok so this is what jet lag feels like! Well had to have an afternoon nap after a series of things went wrong - getting a local Ozzie sim card took an age, my new suitcase broke (thanks wilkinsons!) and it's pouring of rain! At least my hosts for the next 5 nights seem friendly and the room is nice. Sunlight dosent get through here, with the tops of towers shrouded in smog, it's crazy the mix of buildings, hills, people rushing. I'm about to go up the peak tram to the highest 360 degree viewing platform in hong kong...I'm not gonna look down! As it turns out a huge fog came down so viewing anything was impossible but the super steep tram ride was fun as was the novelty of being mobbed by a gang of giggling Hong Kong school children - smile for the camera!...
