Up early for another cooked breaky and our last day on Fraser Island! We packed up camp and headed straight off in the trucks!
Firstly we stopped at the Pinnacles. Amazing coloured rocks, orange and yellow. The aboriginal legend is that this man was promised a young girl to marry, but discovered she had fallen in love with another man so he killed the girl when she jumped in front of her lover who the man was actually trying to kill with his boomerang and the rocks represent her blood and tears and became a sacred area where only aboriginal women are allowed to go.
Next we moved on down the beach at great speed. It was a little scary at times especially as we knew that several people have died touring the Island by rolling their trucks in the soft sand by turning to sharply! We stopped at the Maheno Shipwreck, an incredible wreck that lies on the waters edge on the beach. The ship was travelling from Australia to Japan when it got caught in a cyclone and later drifted ashore onto Fraser Island.
On again to Eli Creek. A beautiful creek, leading onto the beach with the clearest water. We were able to walk to the top and then float down the creek back to the beach! Emms created a fabulous song about cockroaches (using the german word) 'hey kakalaka, oooh kakalaka' and began singing it as we zoomed along the beach, the germans in the front weren't too sure about it...we were lolling!
Last stop of the day was lunch and Lake McKenzie. This is the most beautiful of all the lakes with the clearest water, however it was not our favourite due to the number of people! It was the most popular lake we visited which took something away from its beauty. Our fave was Lake Birrabeen!
We took lots of great piccies and found Fraser Island to be a highlight of our trip! Back to Hervey Bay in the afternoon we jumped straight in the shower to get rid of all the sand (and pongs!) Then cooked supper (lol at the ridiculous amount of pasta we cooked, defo taking some cold with us tomorrow) Up at 5 am to catch a bus to Rainbow beach and then our Oz bus down to Brisbane!
