So, first day sightseeing & pretty successful on the whole. Got a good nights sleep which was great and up for breakfast & then took the sightseeing bus up to Table Mountain.
It's absolutely glorious up there, the views are stunning & I'm sure my fairly mediocre photography will not even remotely do it justice. What I didn't think was that it would be so windy - which of course it would be if you think about it. Fortunately, in additon to slapping on the factor 50, I took my microfleece, so I was covered up and managed not to burn!! Big result!!
The cablecar is cool and has a rotating floor, so nobody can hog the views and there were some very silly women going up in high heels?!?! So glad I had my walking trainers on. The Fynbos is nice, reminds me alot of the kind of scrub and heath we get in England, not much in flower though. Saw some Dassies's - which are a bit like guinea pigs on steroids, all lounging about sunbathing.
Took the 12 noon guided tour, after hearing the Signal Gun go off, which was interesting but quite short, then took the longer trail, the Klipspringer I think and came back down after 1pm.
The bus came back via Camps Bay and the coast road, all of which is very fashionable & beautiful and expensive!! I have to say, Camps Bay looked the equal to any beach I've seen in the Caribbean or on the Florida Gulf coast - couldn't help thinking that big sis & family would have loved it!
Got back into town around 2ish and decided to hit the Aquarium, as I figured I'd probably had enough sun, despite pretty much wearing my hat the whole time. Had some lunch & noticed that I had timed Table Mountain pretty well, as the cloud cover aka "the tablecloth" had come in during the drive back to the waterfront. The Aquarium was amazing and saw some weird and wonderful creatures, some of them scarily big - there were crabs and lobsters bigger than my head!! The Kelp Forest exhibit was amazing and one of only 2 in the world.
By the end of the Aquarium was discovering that perhaps I had had too much sun and was definitely discovering that my feet were out of use and starting to develop blisters. So, deciding discretion being the better part of valour, headed back to the hotel for a nap.
So, no sun burn, not quite blisters but too much midday sun today means an early night to try & sleep off the sunshine.
Tour down to the Cape Point tomorrow, so early start!
