Had a good day yesterday. The panniers were off the bike and I took full advantage of this and went for a ride through the cinque terra national park. I found a lot of good roads. Some of them had been heavily eroded to the point that the Armco rail had fallen down the cliffs that it once guarded. Exciting stuff. Time got away on me a bit and before I knew it I had been riding for a good 5 hours. An excellent day. Following my return I set off with washing in hand and did my laundry. My clothes could nearly walk themselves down there because it had been "a while". Back to the hotel and a shower and ready for a beer. Met a nice couple from South Africa and talked about possible itineraries for a ride through Africa. I am convinced that this is a good idea and will look into it when I eventually make it back home. A good night after a good day. Woke this morning with every intention of riding the coast road to Monaco. I got as far as Genova before I got sick of sitting in traffic so I diverted my course and made for Lyon. I took the most direct route I could which meant going through the alps again. Literally through the alps. The tunnels were amazing. Not just because of the distances they span but the cost to drive through them is mind blowing. In Italy and France I must have spent easily over 100€ on tolls today. Still, I don't regret it, it was a unique experience. The weather today was a little overcast and cool but the rain that was threatening held off and the ride was as pain free as any 650km ride could be. Lobbed in this pretty little village now. I can tell you my 3€ bottle of rosé is very nice. Also had a kebab as big as a hat to keep the wolf from the door. The tent is pitched and it is time to settle in for the night. Don't know what tomorrow holds?

Bondy I can't believe I was not told earlier about this wonderous tale of a man, a bike, a tent and adventure!! Loving reading about your travels Rozza. Instilling some good old Aussie yarns into some small village pubs no doubt. Good on you mate. Bondy.
Angus Miller Great stuff Rowan have been following with great interest 3 euro rose sounds good the mossies must have been a bit much you must be building up some sort of resistance or maybe you taste better than most a family failing I'm afraid once you get down towards the Riviera the Germans get thicker and the mossies fewer you work out which is worse ATB D
Gavin Hey Rowan, good meeting you in Levanto last week over a couple o' beers. However those Italians should stick to making grappa, as their beers proved to be a one way ticket to hangoverville. We enjoyed two nights in Florence before making our way back to Milan via in night in Bologna, which was the least tourist-swamped of our stops on tour. However being a student town of sorts there was plenty of rum to be had, which resulted in a fairly pedestrian and labored drive up to Milan to catch our flight out. Back in Johannesburg now and thinking ahead to a Southern African roadtrip in the next month or so. I'll let you know how that goes. Thanks again for the wine. It'll be sampled soon enough! Enjoy the rest of your tour. Cheers, Gavin
