Did the ride from a campsite on the Swiss / German border to the alpine region of Austria. The country is the most striking I have ever seen. Arrived at another campground in a valley by a large freshwater lake near the town of Spittal an der drau. The weather here is hot and fine. Upon arriving at the campsite I was confronted once again by people (mostly German and Austrian) who are probably reliving their good ok days when they went to Hitler youth camps. All about that vintage. I was the only person here with a tent that was not 6 stories or a motor home. They all look at me a little amused as I appear under equipped for such a place. I would have found out how well i was equipped I was if the thunderstorm that was echoing around the hills had actually hit! Dinner last night was a Primus stove special. A mix of some pork (surprise surprise) sausage with a cup of chianti to flavor. The rest of the bottle was taken care of whilst I wrestled with the washing machine. Not a bad drop for 3.50€, and it made it easier to deal with the disappointment I felt when the package of washing powder I put through the machine turned out to be bleach. The grey nomads love it here. Have stopped in a little village called Hohenthurn for a latte and a look for Internet. On my way to Slovenia only a coupe of hundred kilometers away to the south. Will come back to Austria for more riding next month. The roads and scenery are fantastic. Jadranska Costa next stop.
