Pretty drive today into the mountains of New Mexico. The interstate at this section of the mother road actually covers the old road so we just had to use the motorway. Got us to Santa Fe quickly tho.
Santa Fe is definately the most picturesque place so far. High in the hills (7000 ft - its the highest state capital in the US) full of adobe style houses and ranches. The annual Indian market is on at the moment where the indiginous people from the area come and peddle their wares. They may be rural people but they know how to rip off the tourists. 21st century scalping the pale faces. Nothing changes.
Had a proper mexican for lunch. ( As Ron Burgundy would say - "when in Rome") . The traditional sweet is a tortilla deep fried, and honey drizzled over it. I must have put a few pounds on at lunchtime , which is all well and good as it won't notice on a fat b****** like me.
Albuquerque is an interesting town ( for interesting insert dull). The stretch of 66 still has some realy nice signs on still.
Dinner at the restaurant on Sandia Peak, which overlooks the town. Its 10000 feet up and the longest cable car in the world takes you there in 15 minutes. That high, the temp dropped by 20 degrees from the start point. The guide told us that we might see mountain bears. I only saw brass monkeys.
Cocktails and dinner to the sunset over New Mexico. Noice! (Sic).
Staying at a very nice motel on the 66 again, run by an indian couple ( Delhi not Mexico). Shower so powerful I bent down to get the soap and got a free colonic irrigation. That beats the complimentary brekkie any day. I now sound like Aled Jones before his voice broke. I was "walking in the air" when the jet hit......
Night night all xx
