Good drive today to Texas. Saw lots of landmarks and classic 50's roadside ephemera.

Passed through a couple of ghost towns which were very spooky..

Went to the Big Texan Ranch for a steak tonight. I went for the small 18oz . Watched a man from Mississippi attempt the 72oz steak challenge. And fail. I couldnt finish my 18oz, and I suspect my colon will still be pissed off with me in the morning. So god knows what his insides will be like.

Third person on the trip so far asked me which part of Australia I was from. Asked me if I knew the Steve guy who wrestled crocs. I'm not sure many brits pass this way. I told her I didnt for 2 reasons. Im British, and Steve Irwin is dead.

Passed through a storm today. Pulled over into a rest area where they had a tornado shelter and warnings everywhere re rattlesnakes. Stood in front of the sign and asked Les to pick up a rock as a momento but she wouldnt. Back to the drawing board.

Weather here is amazing. In 30 mins we went from 93 degrees humid sunshine, to 66 degrees and hailstones. With bad visibility, then back to 92. Unbelievable.

Visited the devils rope museum, dedicated to the love and preservation of rare barbed wire. Only in America.....

Off to search Amarillo for sweet Maria, see if she is still waiting.....
