Another scorcher today. Cloudy but still 31 degrees. Headed west out of St Louis
On the interstate and rejoined the 66 where it hadn't been tarmaced over. Entered Missouri - state 2 of 11 on the trip.
Todays journey was a step back in time - lots of classic cars and old road towns. Saw the largest rocking chair in the world, visited a gun shop, the first ever rock cut to allow a road through, and a must for all you ladies, a tanning salon that you can ' Tan your fanny'. ( see pics). I had to stop the car as I was crying with laughter. Les was tempted......
Passed through a storm hit area today- Waynesville. They had 10 inches of rain in one night 2 days ago and it has flooded the whole town. 3 dead so far. Didnt realise it had happened until we drove into town and saw all the news teams. Wierdly we have only seen about 10 mins of light rain so far.
Staying the night in a genuine 1940's route 66 motel tonight- the Munger Moss motel, named after the first two husbands of the original owner. The present owner, Ramona, is absolutely lovely, and makes you feel so at home. The neon sign is one of the must see landmarks on the road.
We are in the route 66 room which is 1960's all the way. Walls covered in authentic 40's and 50's route images, both ones we have already seen and ones to come.
Roadkill here is awesome. Forget Badgers and rabbits. Here its armadillos, racoons and terrapins.
Dinner at a redneck steak house.
Tulsa tomorrow.
