Ross and Natalie's Travel Journal
We then travelled to one of Vietnam's most pleasant towns, Hoi An. Anyone who loves a bit of shopping would go mad for this place. We struggled to keep the dollars in our pockets. It is an amazing little old town with French influences and has the quaintest coffee and cake shops. Ross had cakes 2 nights in a row on a backpackers budget and I watched. There are tailor shops on most of the corners so we had suits, jackets, shirts, trousers and even a tie tailor made for under a $100....cheap as chips!!
We went on a more cultured journey to the overgrown mouldering ruins of My son. Kings where buried here as early as the 4th century...more antique will be hard to find. We enjoyed more Vietnamese culture by doing a tour through the ancient city of Hue on the back of moto's and visiting ancient tombs. We watched an interesting monk ritual in a temple. There where 75 monks praying to Buddha to bless their meal. They chanted for about 1 hour before they could eat a tine bit of rice in a bowl...it was magical and shows real dedication.
