After exploring Sydney’s buzz we where off to the city of Melbourne. We met up with our two English lovelies that we met in Cambodia and they showed us the best time in Melbourne. We did the lot: clubbing till 5 in the morning on Chapel Street, we drank coffee in the quirky back streets of Melbourne, we rode on the city trams up Fitzroy Street without paying a cent, we visited the many museums and exhibitions on Federation Square, we where mesmerized by the Victorian architecture and beautiful churches, we went to the famous AFL stadium where the Ozzies play that strange kind of rugby game and we went on a walking tour for 9 hours through the city and got to know the place by heart. Melbourne is fabulous and to top it off we went to St Kilda for a couple of days. St Kilda is a place we most definitely could live in. It is very similar to Covent Garden except there is a beach – what more can you ask for.
The following few days we planned our own Road Trip with Delia and Carly along the incredible Great Ocean Road. It was fantastic to do this scenic drive with the girls. We stopped at Torque and were greeted by a lovely old lady full of information. We stopped at the famous surfers spot Bells Beach and traveled to Lorne and Apollo Bay for some fantastic shots of the ocean. We stopped at the Otway National park and saw our first Koala. It was really hard to spot them and we managed to get really close for some pics. That evening we reached the Twelve Apostles in time for sunset. The views were fantastic and the ocean was rumbling. We booked into our own private cabin in the evening at Port Campbell National Park. The following day we traveled further along the twisty road. We stopped at the Bay of Islands ocean rock formations, thousands of tiny islands, The Arch and London Bridge, the Loch and Gorge and the Grotto. We drove to Warrnambool and saw three whales playing in the waters only ten meters from the beach…what a terrific sight. In Port Fairy we had more fish and chips. We then headed inland towards The Grampians. The Grampians has unique rock formations and Aboriginal rock art. We stayed in another cabin at Halls Gap and saw hoards and hoards of roo’s with heaps and heaps of Joey’s. We also went to the McKenzie waterfalls, the Balconies and enjoyed the fluffy trees of this region. A year ago 60 percent of the Grampians burned down and the trees and forest are just coming to life hence the fluffy trees…it is so weird. To finish the Road Trip off we went to the famous winery called Seppelt on the way to Melbourne. We loved Delia for being the designated driver and we tasted every wine on the list and got nicely tipsy. Seppelt is a very old winery and the cellars where truly amazing. It was the end of the Road Trip and we had a whale of a time.
