Singapore - 17th-20th
After our 5 hour bus journey from Kuala Lumpur, we finally arrived in our 5th, and cleanest country....Singapore!
We headed to the well known area of 'Little India'. This area is the equivalent to chinatown but for indians. Ross had researched that this was the area which was not only the cheapest, but had the most hostels/backpackers.
Within 30mins of searching, we realised it was going to be difficult to find a place to stay due to us arriving later in the afternoon. Finally we found a cheap hostel and you could tell why it was the price we paid. It was the worst hostel we had stayed in. It smelt of B.O, feet and curry and the toilets were also filthy and smelly.
After settling into the hostel from hell, we headed out for a bite to eat in a hostel call Prince of Wales. We also booked to stay for the next night due to it being a much nicer place. After dinner, we decided to stay in the Prince of Wales for a few beers and a bit of pool. We soon realised how expensive Singapore was going to be when Brad asked 'how much was a London Pride?' and got the reply of '$14' (7 quid!!!)....safe to say we only had 2 cheaper beers. lol
The following morning, we relocated to the Prince of Wales straight away as the pair of us couldn't take the smell any longer!
Once settled in, we headed to Singapore City's main water front and we were automatically amazing by the weird and wonderful buildings and monuments. We even saw a floating football statuim!
We came across an open air theatre where a band were sound checking, we found out the performance started at 7pm so headed back for dinner and stumbled across a traditional Singaporean foodhall which had hundreds of food counters with different types of food from all different countries. We both got huge dishes of Rice, egg, chicken and noodles for $3!! sooo cheap! Soon after, we headed back and watched some live music. Ross started to feel ill so we headed back for an early night.
The next morning, we tried to book 1 more night in the hostel but unfortunately it was fully booked for that night so we had to pack our bags yet again and find somewhere else to stay. Fortunately Ross found somewhere really nice for only $2 more a night!
Yet again, once settled in, we jumped on the MRT (Singapores version of the tube) and went to Orchard road which is similar to London's Oxford St. The MRT is so much cleaner, quicker and cheaper than the tube. Very pleasant.
Upon arrival to Orchard Road it started to rain very heavilly so we went inside a huge shopping mall. Inside, we found a virtual golf centre. Basically its like golf but you hit a ball at a screen and it works out where you hit it and at what distance and power. We decided to play St. Andrews and Brad spanked Ross on the front 9 but on the 11th Hole Brad got stuck in a huge bunker and hit 22 shot on 1 hole allowing Ross to win the game as the time ran out! Great fun!
In the evening, we headed back to the waterfront to witness Singapore at night. We thought Singapore was incredible by day. But at night its twice as impressive! Theres lights, lasers and optical illusions everywhere you look!
We saw more live music who were brilliant! It was an 8 piece Ska/Rap band from the USA who got the crowed up on their feet and dancing. We then watched a waterfountain/light show which was incredibley clever how they made water look like a television (the videos will explain)
After the show we headed home as we needed to be up early for our flight to Bali!!
