We sayed at Barkley Homestead, which is a great roadhouse and caravan park. Over the years we have been travelling the Barkly Hiighway we have seen big improvements in this place. Unfortunately it is renowned for its very high fuel prices. We paid $1.79 per litre. It is a long way (more than 500 kms) from major towns. Towns within this range are Katherine, Tennant Creek and Mt Isa. The park had approximately 100 vans in it for the two nights we were there.
The next night we stayed at Camooweal where we camped on the dry river bed of the Diamintina River.
The following night we stayed at Clem Walton Park and Corella Dam at Cloncurry. We thought this would be a magic spot to stay, near the water a kilometre in, so no road noise and beautiful views, trouble is when we got to the top of a hill it seemed that at at least another 200 other caravaners had the same idea. We found a spot to camp, but nowhere near the water.
Today we are at Julia Creek RV free stay camp - no charge- but you have to register so the council know how many people are staying and you also need to complete a survey as to how much you spent in the town during your stay. so the council can tell whether keeping and maintaining this area is worthwhile for the town.

Bruce Sounds great, best you let them know in the survey you spent a mountain of money so the continue the upkeep. Who knows, we may benefit from it one day.
Maree n col Sounds great mum n Ross would have been nice to stay on water luv rio xo
Wendy & Norm Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. We loved corella Dam but it does get busy. I think also because the rodeo is in Mount Isa this weekend. We were at Julie Creek this time last year and left our caravan at the cp as that's when my mother passed away. You keep enjoying pity we will miss you by a week as we leave Kurumba on Friday heading to Mt Isa.
