Today the world is my school and my classroom is culture performances.
The first performance I saw was called the lion dance. I am going to tell you some facts about lion dances. Here they are: the lion dance was actually used to exorcise evil spirits and bring prosperity. Lion dancing is one of the most wide spread folk dances in China. The dance has a long history, about 2,000 years ago according to the records. There are two people inside the lion one plays the lions body and tail and the other plays the head.
I was just looking through the web and I found a fact that I think is interesting so I am going to share it with you. Here it is. In Hong Kong, China some of the lion dance costumes are different colors like yellow and black or purple or red or orange and even pink!
I was pretty impressed about how many people went to the show even though it was at a parking lot. I was also really impressed that the people in the dragon costume can barely see and they go on little platforms that are only 10 inches wide and they are up high above the ground. They jump and twist and wow, wow, wow! They sure are pro's!
creeeeeeeeeeeeek-BOOM creeeeeeeeeek-BOOM
There goes the fireworks I say as look through the peephole through the people that I made my self. Pink and gold that turns into green red hearts, green hearts, red bows, Oh my, what can be a better sight?
I can't believe how many types of colors you can have when your doing fireworks!

Uncle Jeff Were you scared at all by the fireworks? Cousin Jakey used to be so scared of fireworks! The different colored lions are interesting. Do the colors mean anything ? Glad you enjoyed the New Year. Mucho love from New York!
Gran Gautney Thanks, Rosie, The Chinese seem to have a special relationship and meaning with animals. Was this lion dance supposed to frighten bad spirits away from the people and their endeavors? Does the city have any parks or places where you can enjoy trees and other vegetation? Miss you and love you much!!
