Unfortunately our time in France is coming to an end. Soon we will be off to the airport to begin our journey back to the States. In typical crazy fashion, we are flying east to Zürich, Switzerland, before heading back west for the long flight to Newark! Oh well...
We have loved France! It’s food, culture, natural beauty, beautiful buildings and art work, not to forget, of course, its delicious wine, has all been unforgettable. I can see, as a friend told me, if there was only one place she could visit, it would be France!
From the wonderful city of Paris, certainly one of the most magnificent cities in the world, to the Champagne region, to the the lovely town of Dijon, and the Burgundy Region and the quaint town Beaune with its delicious wines and tastings, and historic hospice filled with treasures, each wonderful in its own way. To Lyon, a city settled by the Romans, on to the Alps and arriving at Provence, and Sisteron, such a magnificent drive! Also the pretty Antibes, and Côte d’Azur, on the Mediterranean with its beautiful blue waters, lovely beaches, not to mention many boats in all sizes, and the gorgeous views on the road to that magical place Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Heading west to the UNESCO sight of the walled city of Avignon. Amazing.... but not to be outdone by another UNESCO sight, Ponte-du-Gard, a Roman aqueduct before arriving at the storybook town of Carcassonne. Magical, especially night, but wonderful in the day as well.
On to the base of the Pyrenees, and the religious town of Lourdes, and its amazing story, beautiful church and grotto, and its nightly candlelight procession! Truly moving.
Next to Bordeaux region with a stop at the charming town of Saint-Emilion, and to the city of Bordeaux, what beautiful countryside, with miles upon miles, of vineyards! Then to the Loire Valley, a gorgeous agricultural spot, doted with magnificent castles and gardens.
Arriving back to the wonderful city of Paris, for one last fantastic day with a great group of new friends, and our fantastic tour manage Edo, and bus driver François.
France has more than exceeded our expectations in many ways, so as wait to say au revoir, what we would like to mean is a bientot, see you soon!
