Woke up in this Cote d’Azur town, and no need to travel ! Following breakfast we started the tour of Antibes. Our guide filled us in on the history of this beautiful place. Walked along the water with lovely views of boats floating with the fort perched in the background. Lovely. On to the area known as Billionaire’s Key, a very exclusive mooring area for large yachts. One of the largest and most expensive was there!
On to the old town area through the wall that surrounds this part. Made our way up some charming streets and to the top. What a marvelous view! Found our way to the church square, and on to the Picasso Museum.
This beautiful building was once a castle that was bought, and eventually Picasso spent time using the top floor as a studio to paint. There was a wonderful outdoor terrace with views of the Mediterranean, and interesting sculptures by other artists.
Our guide ( who was fantastic and very knowledgeable not only of the area, but also of Picasso and his work), took us up to the floor that houses his drawings, paintings, sculptures, and ceramics . Picasso was quite prolific in his production, with over 150,000 known pieces of art work at the time of his death.
Learned many interesting facts, and explanations of his paintings, as well as his other works from our guide.
Upon leaving, we made our way to the market in old town, where we had some time to shop/ and or relax with a drink.
Returned to the hotel, dropped off my purchases, and walked down to the waterfront. Strolled along enjoying the gorgeous sea scenery, and made our way to a charming cafe for lunch.
Back to the hotel to prepare for Monte Carlo. Boarded the bus, and had a lovely ride, again with magnificent scenery through Nice and out along the coast. Made a stop to take in a stunning view, and were treated by Edo and Fransisco our driver, to champagne and snacks! Lovely.
On to Monaco, and particularly the Monte Carlo area for our evening. Made it to the granddaddy of all casinos, featured in several James Bond movies. Enjoyed a martini, and Larry even won money at the slots, before a lovely dinner with new friends in one of the casino restaurants. All too soon, it was time to leave.
What a day! Back at the hotel to get organized and to bed, as it’s another early day. Heading to Avignon and Carssecone for the evening.
