Next day we woke up and at first seemed like it was going to be a normal drive down to Wanaka, we got settled into napping on the way there and that was that. About 40mins into the journey the bus just randomly stopped, so at first we assumed we were at traffic lights or something normal like that..After being stopped for about 10 mins it was clear something was wrong so one of the girls went up the front to investigate. Turns out someone had taken diseal from the bus and their was a fuel leak...GREAT. So we stopped for just over an hour or so and then it seemed everything was fine again, so off we trotted. Did a few stops at a waterfall and at a beach where we signed a few rocks and carried on like normal. Another half hour or so after this the bus stopped again and the driver shouts at us all to get off the bus.. So we wondered down to a little area just off the side of the road having no idea whats going on or how long we're going to be stuck for. Only sensible thing to do was to start a round of highland games using the cones ect that was around us! So we got all involved in jumping over cones, doing the limbo, highjumping and seeing how far we could hit rocks with the cones whilst being eaten alive by bloody sandflies- worst flies ever! My feet were bitten to death. Anyway, while we were all in the middle of our games, poor Leo- An older gentleman from Amsterdam had to hitch-hike to the next town; we were in the middle of nowhere so had no signal but had seen another tour bus overtake us earlier in the day and our driver knew they were in the next town which was half hour or so away.) So, good old Leo managed to hitch hike away and within an hour or so of being stuck we saw the 'stray' bus appear around the corner...YAY! So we all got on this bus which took us to the next town while the driver did whatever with our bus. Thankfully it was a gorgeous sunny day so once in town we sat outside the cafe with a bottle of wine between us singing along to Lauren's old school ipod- great way to pass time. Anyway, after another short amount of time we got back on our bus and went off.. About half hour after setting off we did another photo stop which was very beautful but when we went to get back on, the bus wouldn't start! Finally it got rolling but making the worst noices and going so slowly! We ended up arriving in Wanaka 12 hours after leaving Franz- should of been a 5 hour journey. So soon as we got to the hostel we got changed and had dinner- wasn't much going on so just had an early night.
Next morning we had a brand new bus YAY! Great start. Then we headed to a place called Puzzling world which I thought was amazing. Had all these illusion rooms and a big maze that we got lost in for a while- Great morning. Then we started our journey into Queenstown. Amazing. On the way we stopped so a few people could go and do the bridge bungy, which was the first bungy in the world and that was awesome watching all our pals jump off a bridge. We also had to book our nevis bungy while we were there so after doing that we were so hyped up! Another stop before we got into Queenstown was to a fruit store where we had real fruit ice cream- I had banana and it was probably the best ice cream I've ever had! Stingray being Stingray saw a deal on a bag of apples so decided she HAD to buy them. Our journey from here to Queens consisited of everyone placing a bet on how long it would take her to eat 5 apples- I lost by 4 seconds GRRR.
Anyway... Next blog is going to be a long one because we lasted 2 weeks in Queenstown. Never fallen in love with a place so much (so far) as I did with Queens.
