After what felt like forever, we arrived at Kaiteriteri which is this massive national park and really stunning. We had switched kiwi drivers on the ferry so were now being driven around by a girl called Lauren who was really funny & A LOT more fun then the dude before (who was actually her boyfriend!) We arrived and were really pleased to see some of our other kiwi bus friends who had left a day earlier from Welly but had a boring bus so waited for us to catch up! The weather wasn't amazing, a tad chilly but we still were determained to head down to the beach just because it was there, sat for about 10 mins before getting too cold and headed back to the hostel to make a big group spag bol dinner. In the evening we went to the pub next door for a few drinks which involved a few drinking games and some kareoke before bed time.. Next morning was up bright and early to try my arm at kaiaking which I had never done before but for some reason decided it would be a great idea. Ended up paired with Stingray and within about 5 mins she realised I had no idea what I was doing and was trying to teach me, bless her she definatly ended up doing most the work but I tried my best! On the trip we saw these rocks which had an insane amount of mussels on them before hitting the star of the show- the split apple rock (in the pic) we stopped at a bay right by the rock for a little snack and some photos when a few of the guys decided we should swim out and take photos on the rock, I was all up for it until I felt how FREEZING the water was and I chickened out to sunbathe and take snaps of the others. After about half hour or so we jumped back in our kaiacks and went back to our starting point, decided to have a race between Matt & Ally and I think we won! Soon as we were finished we literally had to jump out, dry off and run back to the hostel to pack and sort our lives out before the bus left.. Still managed to get pouched eggs and a cuppa made for me though!
Such a beautiful place! When we arrived the weather wasn't fantastic but our lodge was right on the beach so we felt we HAD to wonder down.. When we got there we saw Matt had beaten us to it and was doing a full on work out on the beach- very amusing to watch for a bit. But we only lasted for about 20mins when the cold got the better of us. We went back to our cosy little room and started making a massive spag bol for our dins. Turns out doing group dinners are awesome because the food is a lot better and works out so much cheaper! After dinner everyone went to the bar next door, including our new driver Lauren who turned out to be awesome! She got us playing the coin game in extreme (if you drop a coin into someones drink while they're holding it they have to down the drink). Lucy and Kat got up on the kareoke and we just had a really nice relaxed drink altogether and hit bed about midnight.
Next morning, me and Ally got up and went down to the beach and the weather was B E A UUUUTIFUL! Which was just as well as we were about to go kayaking! All put ourselves into pairs so me and Sting went together and within 5 minutes I discovered I was absolute pants! We did kayaking for about an hour until we arrived at split apple rock- on the way saw a few seals and LOTS of mussels! Stopped off at a beach next to split apple rock and had a snack and a drink- few people decided to swim over to it to take some snaps but it was fair too cold for my liking so I stayed on the warm beach and sunbathed until it was time to head back. Once we did a lovely kayak back we went back to our lodge and freshened up and got changed and I went to the kitchen to be greeted with pouched eggs and a cuppa...lovely. After an amazing morning we got back on the bus and we were on our way to Westport!
