We left Dalat early and headed to Nha Trang, the home of Vietnams best beaches, we were happy to be leaving behind the cold weather. We arrived at lunch time and found a hotel. We then headed out to find the best dive shop and booked Pete in to do his open water scuba diving course, we managed to get it dead cheap. From here we headed to Ganesh, an Indian restaurant which came recommended by Trip Advisor. We were both starving so ordered popadoms, samosa’s, two curries and two naans. The food was great but there was so much we stuggled to finish it; it was definitely the best curry we have had outside of India but still didn’t quite match the authentic ones.
The following morning Pete was up at 6.30 to go diving, whilst he headed for the boat and learnt the basics Kate relaxed in the sun on the beach. She later became known as the bag lady as four separate people asked her to watch their bags whilst they went in the sea. The sea in Nha Trang was quite rough, the waves were huge and smashed the huge grains of sand against your body, a great natural exfoliant. Pete returned from his diving and joined Kate for a late lunch. That evening we went for a couple of drinks and got an early night.
Pete was again up early for diving and Kate was back on the beach for the following day. Pete came back and completed his exam to pass the course. We then spent the afternoon on the beach and found a bar selling steak for dinner at reasonable prices, it wasn’t bad either.
As Pete had now completed the course he was able to do some fun dives on the last day, Kate joined him and we both had a great time. We saw lion fish, clown fish, trigger fish and a nudibranch which is a beatifully coloured slug type of thing; we also saw stonefish which are the most poisonous fish in the sea. For our second dive we headed round to the other side of the island to dive through some caves, these were amazing, huge rocks and coral had formed tunnels which you could swim through, it was definitely our best dive.
That evening we met with Lee and Nicola who we had met in India and Cambodia. We headed out for a beautifull Italian meal and then headed to the bars, which there are hundreds of, and had a fair few drinks, followed by a greasy burger. We spent the last couple of days relaxing on the beach, eating some great food and drinking. On our last night we visited Atlantis, a micro brewery on the beach. We ordered two tasting trays which consisted of four beers that they produce in house, it was lovely to sit by the sea trying these out.
Nha Trang was very much geared up for tourists and had a great range of restaraunts and bars, this is probably why most of the people there were Russians. We had great fun and can’t wait to get to Thailand to do some more diving.
