Vietnam ended up being a nice surprise, we had met many travellers that didn't rate it and much preferred the neighbouring countries Loas and Cambodia. We spent our full time in Vietnam and loved it, there was so much to see and do compared to the previous country we were in, Cambodia.
We enjoyed our off the beaten track experience in the Mekong Delta, although the food really wasn't up to scratch. We loved the hill stations of Dalat and Sapa and enjoyed exploring the old towns of Hoi An and Hanoi. We tried some local treat's such as Bia Hoi which is freshly brewed beer that is made and drunk on the same day, it was ok but the fact it was so cheap made it more appealing. We also enjoyed some incredibly tasting street food, dry beef noodles being a firm favourite in Hanoi.
Most of the people were friendly in Vietnam, we found that people in Hanoi less so. Less helpful and we heard many stories of people getting ripped off, luckily we didn't!
It was so interesting finding out about the war, propaganda aside, what the Americans did was horrific and the effects are still shown today. Agent Orange that was sprayed over the ground is causing birth defects by people who had been in contact with it.
Vietnam is a beautiful country an we would have loved to stay longer but time pushes on and we must move on. Vietnam is definitely a country we would return to, there are so many things we had to miss out due to time restrictions, but next time!
