We arrived half an hour early for our bus to cross the border in to Laos. The bus had been filled with rucksacks, the floor and seats were covered in them and people were sitting on them. We had no choice but to sit on other people's backpacks in the isle. This was the same type of bus as the day before but had 38 people on (20 seats). This easily beat the previous day as the most uncomfortable journey, Kate had to sit on the floor between someone's legs, an all time low!

We arrived at the border and checked out of Vietnam, weirdly it was another few kilometres of no mans land to the Laos border. We arrived, filled out the forms and paid $35 for our visa, 10,000 kip service fee, and then 5,000 kip for the stamp (the Kip going straight into the officers pocket....urgh corruption!) Finally we were back on the bus to Muang Khua. The scenery was beautiful and we made friends with another group of British travellers who's legs we were sitting between and who's bags we were sitting on. Laos is dense jungle and mountains in the north and the new road had just been finished cutting a good few hours off the journey, thank God.

Out first impressions of Laos was that it was very Jurassic park- esq! We arrived at Muang Khua which was a tiny village but absolutely beautiful. To our surprise the first few guesthouses where full, luckily Kate got speaking to a guy who could get us some rooms. We followed him across a very rickety long bridge and to this really cute guesthouse right on the river, it was perfect and really cheap!

We found somewhere for diner and had a early night as we were pretty tired from the journey.
