Nyhavn & the Royal Quarter
Tuesday night we caught a taxas (taxi) into Nyhavn & the Royal Quarter which was on my bucket list. The canal is flanked by colourful Dutch style houses built in the 17th century to link the harbour to the city. The buildings on one side of the canal are all houses with restaurants, tonight Italian food was on the menu, we found Venetia Italian and entered by walking down a few steps into a sub-basement restaurant for a three course meal and Italian wine and coffee.
After dinner a brief walk and we were in the Amelianborg Palace Gardens then walked directly into the Royal Palace quadrangle at Amelienborg seat of the current Queen, Margrethe II, which consisted of four austere 16th century palaces around a large cobbled square where we witnessed the changing of a guard at 22:00. One of the Royal Palace house's where Prince Frederik & Princess Mary and their children reside.
We caught a taxi back to our accommodation for a well earned sleep.
I am still in awe of the adventure of a lifetime with my mate Chris and my best friend Rod.
