Day 8: we are now traveling west!
After an early start and enjoying a short stroll on the beach before brekky we were ready to roll at 8.30. Nature though had other idea's, a huge tree branch having fallen in the night blocking the exit from our camping area. It was 10am by the time we escaped the site and started moving.
Onwards to Orbost to refill the fuel tank, both Buddy's and our with a cup of tea.
On again, making our way to Lakes Entrance, a tourist trap at the eastern end of the Lakes National Park. We didn't stop, the town being pretty soulless, but the view from the top of the hill out of town told us why people visit. The lakes being stunning clear water and white sand.
Keeping going to Sale, with it's own waterpark where we pulled in and cooked up some lunch overlooking the lakes at the Botanic Gardens. A relaxing spot but we needed to head on.
Passing through Stratford upon the river Avon made us chuckle.
We stopped in at Port Albert but were already late for our end point at Wilson's Promentary so we carried on.
Entering the National Park we got our first random Australian animal spot, an Emu by the roadside. It didn't like the look of Caroline as she wound down the window to take a photo and took off into the scrub before she could get a shot.
Arriving at the camp site we were met by our good friend Adam, who had arrived a couple of hours earlier. We were quickly settled at camp and catching up on news whilst taking in the sandy beach.
Cooking tea back at camp we had our second spot, as a Wombat came ambling past our camp. Caroline was immediately taken with the fella's little legs and hairy nose.
Later in the evening as we were turning in we got a second visit, and a third Wombat walked by in the distance. Truly a cut little animal, and the star of the evening!
Tomorrow we go back to civilization, as we head into Melbourne!
