Day 15: We've spent today exploring Mt Buffalo National Park. Starting this morning with a run around Lake Catani for Caroline as Gareth faffed around making breakfast.
Heading on we walked up to the Horn. This is the highest point in the national park, but it was an easy climb as we were able to drive Buddy most of the way. The top afforded spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The clouds and mist obscured the more distant peaks, but we could still see for miles around.
Next we visited the Gorge, an huge cliff that forms one face of the mountain. It was through a boulder strewn footpath that we reached the cliff, although to see it we had to cross a car park, so there were easier routes. We made a hasty exit as the clouds came in and the temperature dropped away. Luckily the rain held off.
Lunch overlooked a waterfall, then we headed off towards Mt Beauty. The drive was more mountain roads, winding and slow in Buddy. We arrived in the town well after four and expected everything to be closed, but we were pleased to find a bakery open so we could enjoy a cup of tea and cake.
Suitably refreshed we found our campsite. A little rough tonight, a national park site with no running water, but it's lovely and quiet and tucked away in the forest at the base of Mt Bogong.
An evening stroll, lamb chops for tea and then a nice sunset rounded off the day.
