Where to start with this place! Well, we flew into BA from Lima on the 26th March, and my god do we miss long haul flights. The plane was so cramped, although it didn't help that we were sat just in front of the emergency exit so couldn't recline our seats but the people in front of us could. But somehow I managed to sleep so thats always a bonus. We landed at about half 5 in the morning and got everything sorted pretty quick at the airport, so it was then time to get e taxi cab bus thing to the accommodation. We arrived there at about 8am, and just went to bed - far too tired to do anything that day, so we slept in late and then just had a quick look around 9 de julio once we'd got sorted and went to eat. There are so many grand buildings just hidden about the city - especially central BA, and the amount of detail they hold is ridiculous. There is one building that had about 6 or 7 human figures along the top row all in different positions 'holding up' the building. CRAZY!!! Also saw the congress building which was huge, the very pink presidential palace (ever so feminine) aveune florida which was pretty cool, and the poshest mall I have ever been into, with the most amazing architecture in there too! Seems its just everywhere!!
Our next few days were more productive - even if we did get up late again! BA is a BIG place! We visited San Telmo, Recoletta, Palermo and just generally mooched about. Recoletta has a famous cemetary where Evita is buried - which is nothing to brag about. She may have done some amazing things but everyones always like 'Oh my god you HAVE to go see her burial place' and we heard this quite a lot. Even at the cemetary people were asking us if we'd found her so we thought it would be a pretty spectacular sarcophagus. What a disappointment. Alot of the ones you saw has big marble angel statues, gazebo type structures on to of the main building, monuments of allsorts - and these just for normal people. So you can imagine our faces when we got to Evitas and it was just a black door with flowers tied to it. Really not that great at all.
San Telmo was pretty cool though. Its the oldest neighbourhood in BA, so is pretty much decorated with old colonial buildings as well as many street performers, bohemian bars and pubs that all add to character. We waked throught the markets and the antique stalls today which had some very nice stuff, including a pocket watch that I fell in love with but it wasn't so cheap so had to leave it with the man. The markets were cool - just to see everyone trying to get you to buy their stuff, which the majority of it is all handmade. It was so busy though, you couldn't walk properly for the amount of people. Felt like a sardine in a can! When we walked back, we went past the Obelisk which makes you very dizzy if you try and look up at it - so don't! haha
Palermo was our next visit. There is more to do there at night so was pretty quiet when we went. We did however go to the Rose Garden which was just full of....well roses, as well as monuments, a fountain, a lake and at the end a Greek Bridge which was very nice. After that we tried to locate the Japanese Garden which seemed to disappear! Took us forever to find it, and when we did we were a little disappointed by it. It was nice and had bamboos and a little japanese bridge in it and everything, but it just seemed to lack something. Definately wasn't worth the money to get in, in my opinion. When we got back to the accommodation we met up with Chris who is travelling Argentina with us so thats cool. The next day we went back to Palermo to go to the zoo!!! which i got very excited about to say the least. Still nothing mega special after Singapore zoo but had a good day and we even got to see a goat drop its placenta! which was not what we needed to see at all!! Very nasty. Went to a Pirate themed bar for tea, as it was our 2yr anniversary, and I think I got all worked up about it a little too much. The decor was amazing, the food however was standard and a little overpriced for what you got.
Last day we visited La Boca -which is safe if you stick to the tourist areas. We weren't there long as there isn't that much to see but what there is there is pretty cool. Loads of multicoloured buildings with wierd statues hanging out of windows but that was about it. Got the bus back to the accommodation after that and got all packed and ready to go..... to the bus station!! woop!! Bus to Bariloche is gonna be a b**** but we have a hostel with mountain views and a lake to greet us, so everything is gonna be good. Life is sweet!
