Tuesday 6th May - Onwards and upwards to Cairns.I just have a few May birthday boys and girls that I would like to send good wishes to.(Auntie) Gina - 5th, Chris Claydon - 11th, Rich (Midd) - 12th, Janet (Clements) & Frances Hall (key of the door for her!) - 13th, John (Mitchell) - 14th, Dad (Midd), Tom (Midd), Jo Claydon all on 19th and Ben Hall on 26th.Hope I haven't forgotton anyoneNow onto Cairns - We had prebooked two nights in a city centre hotel called Hides, supposedly the oldest establishment in town.We should have been aware that centre means middle of all the bars, clubs and backpacker hostels, which in turn means groups of young adults with much more staying power than we have. You could say it was rather noisy until 3am(ish), then the street cleaners started hovering up the leaves at around 4.30am - not a lot of sleep was gotton on those two nights.Coral Towers was our next home, in a 2 bedded apartment for 7 nights.Thursday 8th - Rob and I took off to the Skyway and went on the cable car to Kuranda a village in the rainforest. It is quite commercialised with lots of tourist shops and cafes along with a bit of aboriginal art and crafts, plus a real cute wooden church. We came back down to cairns on the Kuranda railway which weaves its way down the side of the mountain - very picturesque.I did the train journey with the girls when we came over here in 1989 (the cable car wasn't open back in those days).
