June 11th We are on the road again heading north back up towards the sunshine coast! We have found accommodation in the coastal resort of Scarborough in the suburb of Redcliffe.Redcliffe is 30km from Brisbane and separated from the mainland by a causeway and reached via a long road bridge. It was where the original settlers set up camp when they landed on this part of the coast before moving inland and establishing Brisbane as the main town.To get to Scarborough we drove through Brighton and Margate. We had a dip in the sea which is part of Moreton Bay so very calm. The water was clear and warm, it was lovely to be able to go in the sea as most of Queensland has restrictions due to jelly fish and other nasties for much of the year.We went for a fishing trip trying our luck from the old road bridge over the causeway which is only used by pedestrians and cyclists these days.Rich started talking to a 'local' who turned out to be from Wisbech!!The fishing trip wasn't so successful Rob kept getting little whiting but nothing of any substance so we went back to the apartments and had a swim in the pool, a dip in the spa pool finished off by a sauna!Friday 13th we ventured out to Brisbane for the day on the train. We had a little walk around the city, saw the city hall, the treasury and custom house.Visited a few shops (as our shopping expeditions have been few and far between!).Then we took the city cat boat and went for a trip up the river. Our last day in Australia was spent chilling by the pool, walking along the coast road, dipping in the spa pool and a final sauna before heading out to dinner at a seafood restaurant. We have had a fantastic time, seeing lots of wonderful places, meeting some special people. The time has gone much too quickly we really must stay longer next time!Australia is well set up for tourists and outdoor life.Everywhere you go you find free gas or electric barbeques, they are clean and ready to use.Sydney transportation is fantastic you really don't need a car to get around and travel is very cheap. Some sections of the roads can be long and boring, we had three drivers so it was ok.The distance from Cairns to Brisbane is approximately 1700 km, we think we have travelled around 7000km by car and bus during our trip! The Great Barrier Reef is awesome and it is good to know that the people visiting it are trying to preserve it as much as possible. The dive companies are very aware of it fragility which is good to know and it gives us hope that it will survive for others to enjoy in the future.Hong Kong here we come!!!!!!!!
