July 13th. Stockholm
I cut off yesterday's blog so if you want to read about our adventures at the ABBA museum and Marie's apartment go back to yesterday's blog.
This morning Luke and I went on a quest for more soccer jerseys. We spent about 2 hours running around to various stores to find some cool ones. We were successful. Luke was content. We then met up with the rest of the gang on the island of Sodermalm, across from Gamla Stan. We were meeting Marie for lunch at 12:30. Prior to meeting her, we stopped in a church and listened to an organ concert for a couple of minutes.
Lunch was on a terrace looking over the water and Gamla Stan. After lunch my mom and dad went to the Photography Museum and the rest of us went to the Stockholm city hall. The city hall is an impressive building that hosts the Nobel banquet every December. It is also the working seat of the Stockholm government. There are some pretty impressive rooms inside and, once outside, has great views of Stockholm.
We met up with my parents at a metro station north of Stockholm. Our dinner plans were at the house of relatives of my grandmother, Lars and Inger. In addition to Lars and Inger, Inger's cousin, My, and her husband, Lars, were there, as well. My and Lars' sons also joined us: Axel, Gustav, Eric, Victor. The boy's ages ranged from 15 to 23. We had a typical Swedish smorgasbord: Salmon, meatballs, potatoes, eggs, anchovies, etc... The food and conversations were quite good (the boys talked a lot of soccer). It was fun to see how typical Swedes live and think. We left with bellies full and new Swedish friends. We headed back to our place to get ready for another busy day in Stockholm.
