July 12th Stockholm, or The Case Of The Missing Suitcase
The place we are staying in Stockholm is possibly the nicest place we have stayed when traveling. It is what I would picture a Swedish cottage would look like. The house has wood floors, the old Swedish style fireplaces, and it fits all of us comfortably. Unfortunately, I could not enjoy it because I could not change into any clean clothes. When I slept I wore a pair of Luke's boxers (quite surprised that I did not rip them). I did not sleep well because I kept thinking about my suitcase and the ramifications if I could not get it back.
The ferry offices opened at 8:00am so I called right away. It took me a couple of people to finally get to someone who could do something. I gave Tessa my information and she said she would call back in an hour. Rather than just waiting around, I decided to head toward the port at Nyanshamn. If the bag was there I could pick it up, if not I could fill out the form to get reimbursed. On the subway to the bus station Tessa called back and said they found it! They also said they would bring it to the Stockholm bus station at 11:15. I went back to the house, showered, and then went back to the station and picked the suitcase up. What a relief! While I was running around, the rest of the crew walked around Gamla Stan (the old town of Stockholm). I caught up with them and we continued exploring Gamla Stan. We checked out the main Cathedral and all the little streets that criss cross through the area.
Our afternoon plan was to meet up with my cousin, Marie, and go to the ABBA museum. Marie has lived in Sweden for the last 10 years. We met her about 3:30 and then spent the next two hours immersed in the life and music of the Swedish supergroup, ABBA. As a proud fan of ABBA, I loved it. There were a lot of interactive displays, memorabilia, and of course, music. We even got to sing and dance ABBA style.
After the museum we all a walked back to Marie's apartment. Marie put a nice little spread of food and we sat, relaxed, and talked. On our way back to the house we stopped at the grocery and got some provisions. Now that I have my bag back, it will hopefully be a better night sleep.
