Day 2 is in the books. After almost 11 hours of sleep we were all feeling better and refreshed. We ate breakfast at the hotel and then went off to the Recoleta cemetery. It is like a city of the dead. All of Buenos Aires rich and famous are buried in thousands of elaborate and ornate mausoleums. The highlight of the visit was Evita's tomb which was surprisingly mundane. After the cemetery, we broke down and went to McDonald's. It was on our way back to the subway and it was convenient (and it made us happy). We headed back toward the center of town where we visited the Mitre museum. Bartolome Mitre was a president of Argentina in the 1860's and his house is now a museum. After the museum, we headed back to our hotel via Avenue Florida, the main pedestrian street in the city. Luke and I bought some futbol jerseys and we were asked if we wanted to change money at least 10 time (no joke!). At the hotel we took a little siesta (everyone spent time checking their electronic devices) and then went out for dinner. We went to the San Telmo barrio and found a place that served fondue (?). We all enjoyed it. Our final act of the evening was to find a helato (ice cream) joint somewhere in San Telmo. Sadly they were all closed so we hit up a market for some treats. We are now back in the room getting rested for another busy day.
