A short bus journey from KL on a luxury bus - a bit like business class on a plane but without the peronal tv's - and we get to Melaka at around 12ish. We splashed out (£10 a night) on a hotel here as we know this'll be the last time for quite a while that we can afford a private room for ourselves. The dormitories of Singapore and Australia await us!
As usual, we check in then head out for a wonder around and manage to see the highlights of Melaka in just a few hours. It's definitely a place worth visiting, it has much historical value, it's pretty clean and like everywhere else in Malaysia, very very friendly.
In the evening we arranged to meet up with the good folks of CTRM and they took us to a fishing village outside of Melaka and to a precarious looking seafood restaurant. Well, it would've been precarious had we not been to some far worse looking places for dinner previously!! First off - a wonderful sunset out at see as we wait for the fasting to finish. We're currently in the month of Ramadan which is the muslim month of fasting between sunrise and sunset. We would never be able to cope with such a challenge but the locals are obviously use to it and manage very well! This also makes the feast every evening all the more special.
I'm more than happy to let our friends order for us while sam is a little dubious! When sunset has passed out comes the delicious food - sea-bass, crab, mussels and squid and our own banana leafs (plates) with chilli rice. Without doubt, the tastiest meal so far and even sam enjoyed the sea-bass! We had a great evening and Firza even gave us a tour-by-night of Melaka afterwards - thanks guys!
We did a little shopping down Jonkur Walk the next day - a street full of wonderful little shops selling local arts, crafts and clothes. Met up with another guy from CTRM - Daniel - who took us to a chinese street seller for dinner. Again, most enjoyable and more chance to taste the local produce.
Heading out to Singapore the next morning but still time for Daniel to take us on a short sight-seeing trip of the places we missed and then a trip to the CTRM factory to see the other people we didn't have a chance to meet up with.
We do wish we had given ourselves more time in Malaysia as we felt we were trying to squeeze lots in to the short time we had and also missing out on a few places we would've liked to have visited. Travelling every other day can also be quite exhausting when the day in between is full of activities! It's a great place and hopefully somewhere we can come back to in the future (even if it's just to take more photo's of those we lost!!!).
On to Singapore...........
