Thursday 30 Oct
Left Hue by private car for the 3 hr drive to Hoi An.
Arrived at our hotel which was certainly a downgrade from Hue - comfortable but definitely budget compared to my other choices.
Anyway after settling in we went looking for a tailor that I had found on TripAdvisor. The town has around 1000 tailors and there are just rows of them in every street. Looks like a nice quiet little place but definitely popular with Aussies as they are everywhere.
We have hardly seen an Australian the past 2 weeks and there are just bus loads here.
We didn't get too far before we were Approached on the street by this guy showing us directions who happened to be a tailor and who assured as that because he was gay he had an eye for design . Anyway he showed us his shop across the street and it was quiet good.
We still went and found the original tailor I was looking for and I ordered 2 pair of shorts and Pat got a blouse. We then went back to the first guy and ordered a whole heap more.
Didn't do much else for the afternoon after that but booked in for a tour of My Son ruins for Friday.
We found ourselves at the night markets along the river and had dinner down there at one of the many restaurants. Food and tailors are the big things here.
Dinner was good as usual and headed home.
Friday 31st Oct
Got up early to join a bus your to the My Son ruins 50km from Hoi An. The bus was half hour late and was packed. Pat and I ended up on the extra gold down seats they have . The guide was a funny chap but I think we got over him fairly quick .
By the time we got to the ruins it was raining and we ended up standing around in the rain listening to the guide which was no fun. Lucky we had umbrellas so was not too wet but it was quite slippery around the place so just having to watch out that Pat does not slip and hurt her leg.
Pat and I bailed out and walked back to a shelter to wait for the group and get back on the bus. Took about an hour to get back to Hoi An.
Once back we went and had lunch and checked on our clothes. A couple of adjustments to be made before pick up with the shorts and also with my work trousers. The shirts are really nice and fit well too.
We needed a bit of a rest this afternoon. Been feeling a bit off the last 2 days and my legs are a bit sore from the walking but definitely need the exercise from all the food.
Last night I also bought 2 "genuine" Ralph Lauren polos for $5 each. Not bad quality really. They will go with my genuine Ray Bans and Oakey sunglasses I have bought too.
Not sure what the weather will be like tomorrow but we want to go look at the beach and the river and do a bit more shopping. It's the rainy season here so we can expect rain I guess.
