Not a very exciting last couple of days. Our last day in Saigon on Thursday was spent at Bobby Brewers watching another movie followed by a massage (#8). Night time people watching is the best part of staying in the main tourist area. Always something going on. We had dinner at a place called The Hideaway where the owner was present for the evening. Looked like a Southern European and the way he was acting it looks like he is a real arse hole. We reckon the local hawkers are scared of him cause not one of them stepped foot on his property which unlike every other place in this street that we have eaten at where they come right up to your table. He also hates any motorbike parked in front of the place too - again unlike every other place where you have to fight to get in the door past all the bikes parked on the footpath, anyway was different watching this guy in action.
Yesterday we spent catching a taxi to the bus office followed by a cramped shuttle bus ride to the big bus station to get the bus to Can Tho. The bus took about 3 hrs or so and we had a stopover at Cai Be for about 15 mins.
Once we arrived in Can Tho bus station it was a s*** fight with all these taxi drivers wanting us but we had a free shuttle service to our hotel that we had to wait for. Challenge was getting someone to help us that spoke English. Not many tourists here. Anyway sorted that out and got to our hotel ok. No lift here and our bags weigh a ton so we heaved them up the stairs to our smelly room. Place stunk of smoke so Pat did some maintenance for them and cleaned their air con filters and sprayed deodorant to try and improve the smell which worked ok.
We grabbed a cab into the main shopping area and had a wander around for a few hours before coming back. We had decided to have dinner at the restaurant across the road which was very different. About 200 Vietnamese and us. Had the most bizarre menu items and was very noisy so we didn't stay long there at all before heading back to the hotel.
Get to stuff around again at the bus station this morning as we figure out how to catch the bus to Chau Doc.
Last day in Vietnam today after 3 1/2 weeks.
