Today we decided to take life a little easier. We enjoyed a short walk to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, a very famous area in Maouri tradition, and on Friday 6th February it is a bank holiday here as New Zealanders celebrate the signing on the treaty with England 175 years ago.
We enjoyed a half hour show by Maouri entertainers great song and dance and of course the Haka. We then had a guided tour around the grounds by a very knowledgeable guide. It was a super hot day with clear blue skies. After lunch we walked in to Paihia to catch the ferry across to Rusell.
Russell is a very small hamlet which didn't take long to explore, by this time the sun was starting to set so we sat by the harbour enjoying a couple of beers and a few tapas before taking the ferry home.
