Not an ideal start to the day with everthing wet and the front boot of the caravan holding a lot of water. However we got ourselves organised and after some essential colorie intakes at McDonalds (bar Mandy) we headed north towards Parkes. It wasn't long before we were at the famous Parkes radio telescope. This was a fantastic experience for the whole family. The kids purchased information books that required them to do a scavenger hunt to find answers. In doing so they learned all about the "dish" and radio astronomy. We watched a 3D movie in the theatre room about space, telescopes and Mars which was very cool. The radio telescope is still used today for radio astronomy.
After lunch we headed north to Peak Hill where we toured a decommissioned open cut mine. Peak Hill has alot of mining history. However we were surprised to find out they Peak Hill was the first rural town in Australia to build the now familiar concrete grain silos.
From Peak Hill we headed to Dubbo. We decided to free camping at a farm stay, which is really nice. We are right next to the airport, so the kids are enjoying watching planes take off and land.
