We left Balranald this morning heading for Hay. It was evident along the way to see corporations are taking over many traditional sheep properties. Large scale irrigation and cropping are abundant. The Hay plains are one of the largest and flattest plains in the world. Arriving at Hay we pulled into the Shear Outback Heritage Centre. Australia's shearing hall of fame. It was great to walk around and read about Australia's shearing history. "Batesworth" Penshurst even gets a mention. "Batesworth" is part of the original Rentsch property and owned and run by my Uncle John and his sons. On the 26/10/65 Kevin Sarre set an Australian record shearing 346 sheep at "Batesworth". After lunch we had a look around town before setting off north east. Seeing massive progress out here on the edge of the outback really makes you aware we are a changing country.
