So where are we... its been soooo long again and I am struggling to remember things, plus I really dont like working to these deadlines the internet keeps setting me!!!!
Well, we left Paihia behind and headed north to Cape Reigna and the 90 mile beach. Not too long a drive and just as scenic as we are getting used to (very very scenic). It is like driving around in a golfcourse. So we get to the start of the 90 Mile beach and decide we should drive down and have a look. It doesnt look too bad, so we try drive onto it.... big mistake and we get stuck straight away and cant get the car our. Luckily there is a nice family with a jeep just behind us and they tow us out!!! Lets not try that again eh....... so we drive up the road to the cape (the beach and the road run parallel to the cape, more or less). About ten minutes down the road we see another entrance to the beach so down we go for another look (maybe there is a carpark we say!!!!). The entrance this time however looks very drivable, we get out and survey it, and we agree its definately drivable.... so on we go.... success and we are off down the beach. Its pretty mad driving down a beach, I have done it in Duncannon in Ireland, but thats about a metre long, not 90 miles!!!!! We drive for about ten minutes, and decide it would be best to turn back, so we go to turn and wouldnt ya know it we get stuck again :). This time however there is no nice family behind us, or anywhere for that matter, we havent passed anyone in ages. We start digging and pushing, and get about an inch back and about two down.... not going well. After about an hour or so, we give up and I decide to play my trump card and run up the beach for help. We agree I will jog up for 15 minutes to find someone and then head back, after 14 I see someone in the distance so keep going and they drive me back to drag the car out. We head back the way we came and I swear it was the most nerve racking experince of my life.... but we made it!!!! After that, it was road road road all the way to the top of the country. On the way we passed loads of cool places we agreed we would go on the way back from the cape. I almost convinced Regina to don a cape and stand in front of a sign for the cape and pose for a photo.... but we were too tired and cranky so we just walked around and took some photos of the scenery instead (it was really good there too). I filled up our water bottles at the cape and off we headed back down to Apihara and along the way all the things we were to stop at, like the giant sand dunes for instance (I actually cant remember anything else, woops!). So we got to the hostel anyway after a long day of driving, had some dinner (beans sausages and potatoes... classic stuff!!!!) and went for a wee walk along the 90 mile beach (we didnt get stuck no). It was lovely, the sun was setting and we got some nice photos, the temperature was quite cool too which was nice after the day in the car
I am sure to have left out loads again but hopefully there is enought there to keep the few readers we have left going til I next get online long enough!!!!!
