So on we go to Merimbula. I have to add at this point, that the places we decided to stay along the coast were kind of chosen for us by the fact that they were all places that had YHA hostels in them. We had no real idea of where we were going to visit along the way and kind of just ended up in these places. We had been told that
there were lots of lovely places to stop along the way, and we stopped at some of them and not others. Jervis Bay being a fine example of such a place, I cant remember if I mentioned this earlier or not. We had been told by Dave and Anna, and also by Beth and Shannon to go there, but when we got there it was raining and the road down to the "best beaches in Australia" was a dirt road that I didnt feel like taking my lovely little orange Micra down only a few days after I got it. Also, along the road down even though there were plenty of places sign posted, we didnt really know what was in each place, and the maps and guides werent much help either, so we went the places we went and that was kind of it, but they were all really nice places all the same. We did actually go to the beach in Jervis Bay and it was a really nice long quite beach that would have been lovely if it wasnt drizzling, even though we swam there anyway!!!! But to make my point, if anyone is reading this as a travel blog looking for advice, South of Syndey is mostly all nice, lovely beaches and towns and forests.... you cant really go wrong I would say and Merimbula was no different... Oh and also, due to availability issues, it being summer holidays here, our hands were forced after Merimbula and we had to drive about 500kms to our next stop, and we pretty much drove straight through, so we probably missed stuff, but its all just beaches anyway eh!!!!
Merimbula anyway, since thats what the blog is about, is a bigger town than the previous two. It is built in two halves either side of a river running inland from the sea. The town has all the makings of the perfect little seaside resort town, icecream palours ($5 for one scoop, no thanks!), fish and chips and plenty of sea gulls (not in a restaurant no). Three hundred metres (there was a sign) from the hostel to right was the sea, and three hundred metres in the other way was the river. Regina, looking over my shoulder has just informed that it was "nice". Its a good thing I am writing the blogs I think. Anyway, where was I. The hostel gave us some vouchers for two for one coffees in this place that was ten minutes outside the town on a nice little coastal track, so off we headed. I have never seen so many lizards in my life, it was crazy. Anyway, the ten minutes was obvioulsy by road and in a car and not by foot and along the bush track, but we made it anyway and had our coffees overlooking the bay. We spent a lot of time at the beach here, it was a really nice beach with extremely soft white sand (not as soft as lopez mendez in Ilha Grande mind). We also took a trip to a nearby village with a beach and a kangaroo population, but we couldnt find any because it was too hot and we were too cranky I think (because of the heat).
Not much else I can think of here. Nice place again, worth stopping off in.... eh... yea
