Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Tom was off before 9am to make his way, via the Metro and the public bus system, to the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Centre. The centre is over one and a half hours away and it is part of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and Tom LOVED it. The museum is HUGE! He saw the Concorde (whose demise he still mourns), the Enola Gay (dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima), another space shuttle, a couple of MiGs, the Blackbird (fastest plane ever - LA to Washington in one hour - he has seen it before, in New York, but not as close up as he would like), and many others. The planes are on the ground, and suspended on two levels above. Tom also saw the caravan that the astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins from the Apollo lived in while under quarantine. He had a wonderful time and got back at about 3.45. Dinner tonight was from a street truck. Watching TV tonight - Mazda is pronounced Marzda. Nissan is pronounced Nisson. And Hyundai Hundai. Forgot to mention, NASA was playing Christmas carols over their speaker system the other day.
