Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Up early this morning, before the alarm sounded! Quick shower and preparation, leaving home at 6am. We made splendid time until we got to the last of the Ms on our way to the airport. This time we've booked an undercover space! We arrived at the carpark at 8am! The shuttle took us to the domestic terminal where we went straight to the gate, via the security screening and, of course, my usual individual screening. Honestly, what is it about me? We arrived at the gate with plenty of time to spare, so Tom got us a coffee and banana bread to snack on as refreshments are not provided on Jetstar. When it was time to board, our row was supposed to descend a flight of stairs, walk across the Tarmac and then ascend another flight of stairs into the plane - Tom checked with the staff and found we didn't have to, what with me and my walking stick! We were very lucky, we had a row of 3 seats for just the two of us. The flight was uneventful, and at a only 2 hours, seemingly short. The qualia desk at the airport had a sign welcoming Mr & Mrs Watt to the airport. We were taken with a Japanese couple to a small minivan and driven to qualia, with points of interest brought to our attention along the way. At qualia we were met at the door with champagne and then shown to the lounge area where we were checked in and details of our plans noted, and our champagne topped up. Our helicopter flight was booked, as were the sunset cocktail cruise and some dinner reservations. After that we were shown to our pavilion, noticing wallabies along the way, and where we found another bottle of French champagne waiting to welcome us! We just sat and regrouped, absorbing the wonderful serenity and breathtaking views around us. We may also have had a little post-wine nap! This evening we ventured out from qualia to Sails restaurant at another resort. This was our first independent ride in the golf buggy, which was a challenge, and it was getting dark, making it more difficult to navigate around. We'd chosen this restaurant because they had an interesting seafood pasta meal, but the restaurant itself was quite a culture shock, with all the atmosphere and finesse of a Coles Cafeteria. There were a lot of young families there, with all the fuss and noise that goes hand in hand. And a wine waiter, who called my semillon Sauvignon a"semi sav". On our return to our pavilion we had the added challenge of rain. It wasn't raining when we got into our buggy, and so we set off with the sides up. The tropical rain came across, in the dark on such strange and narrow roads, and we weren't able to easily put the sides down so we were frequently showered with gusts of rain! Then of course we got lost in qualia! We eventually found our way home and plugged our buggy in before adjourning inside.
