Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we put our outdoor furniture back on the deck, now that the builder has finished installing our windows in the living room and kitchen, and Tom and I have finished painting them. Eventually we finished packing our last minute items and farewelled Chari, who will be looking after our home. After an uneventful trip down to Mascot, Tom and I had lunch at the Maccas before continuing on to the Blu Emu Car Park and leaving our car. We were lucky enough to catch a bus that only stopped at the A and B stops, then express to the airport. We had already printed our boarding passes at home, so it was just a matter of going straight to security checks and then onto the gate lounge. After boarding the plane I was fortunate to be able to use the Virgin inflight entertainment app that I downloaded on my iPad yesterday, and found they had a number of movies that are on my "must see" list, including "Last Cab to Darwin" which I watched, only pausing for the little snack service they brought around. When my movie finished we were only 20 minutes or so out of Cairns. We had to adjust our watches, Queensland is an hour behind NSW. When we landed it was 29degrees, and quite humid. We had only carry on luggage so we're able to search for our hire car company straight away. We have a little Kia Rio to drive around in - very nice. We drove straight to our hotel, where we were delighted to find we'd been upgraded to a suite. After freshening up we went to the Horizons Club Room where we were able to help ourselves to sparkling wine (Hardy's), beer, steamed pork buns, samosas, teriyaki chicken, cheese and crackers etc. - we didn't need dinner then.
