Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So this morning we boarded our private boat after breakfast and made our way back to the coach for the long drive down to Rome. Tom and I are currently trying to avoid having our head colds develop into bronchitis so we slept most of the way through Tuscany and beyond. The farmhouses were very nice, but the landscape is not as neat as Belgium and Austria. We stopped at a roadhouse along the way for our driver's compulsory rest - it was very crowded, mostly with what seemed like school excursions. We continued on down to Rome and to our hotel, which is named after its suburb's twin city: Beverley Hills. After a bit of a break in our rooms (enough time to do the washing) we met up again and were taken on a tour of the city. Bob pointed out the cars parked willy nilly all over the place - he said they don't park cars here, they abandon them! And then onto our restaurant for dinner - overlooking the Colosseum!! Dinner was lovely and we were serenaded by a lady with an incredibly strong voice accompanied by an accordion player. It was amazing. After dinner we were given more of the guided tour.
